Menu

Dining @Hemingway's

“There are three possible parts to a date, of which at least two must be offered: entertainment, food, and affection. It is customary to begin a series of dates with a great deal of entertainment, a moderate amount of food, and the merest suggestion of affection. As the amount of affection increases, the entertainment can be reduced proportionately. When the affection IS the entertainment, we no longer call it dating. Under no circumstances can the food be omitted.” Judith Martin

To explore the Café Hemingway’s menu, is to embark upon an adventure. It’s like wandering into a secret forest, complete with toadstools hiding secret delights underneath their extended, umbrella-heads. Peak beneath one and you will find a Horton (crispy almond crusted Camembert served with a tangy berry coulis) or under another and you will come across our authentic ceviche (Efrain - served with citrus quinoa, micro coriander & fresh chillies).

Meander down a path, cross a stream and you will be presented with the Hemingway’s Whopper Toppa, a burger of breath-taking height (succulent beef layered with Aged Cheddar & topped with bacon & onion jam, wild rocket, & grilled pineapple).

Adventure calls… now’s the time to explore.

‘10 Dining Street’

Behind a secret bookcase in Café Hemingway’s, you can step into a world of private dining, like none you have experienced before.

The ethos at Café Hemingway’s has always been to use the freshest organic ingredients to bring something delightful to each table, and ‘10 Dining Street’ remains faithful to this thinking.

But ‘10 Dinnig Street’ adds a new dimension of artistry to each dish. When you book for your 10 dishes, with 10 guests in ‘10 Dining Street’ you can expect something a little different, a little unqiue and of course totally worthwhile.

Try, for example the parmesan and leek soup (see our image with the egg), or our bread board, served with flavoured gel leaves, pistachio and pine-nut dust, tomato tapenade and dehydrated herbs.

Or even our mushroom mousse butter with friend pine bark, wild basil and truffle zest.

Delight your taste-buds and enter a whole new world of fine dining at ‘10 Dining Street’.

Book on 011 466 0195 / reservations@cafehemingways.co.za

Bookings for (min) 8 and 14 (max) pax in the private dining room.

10 Hemingway's Delicacies

“There’s been a shift in the world of fine dining. It used to be all stuffed shirts, whispered conversations and terrifying waiters. Dinners would be astoundingly complex with tiny portions of unrecognisable morsels, layer upon layer of cutlery and a feeling of not having actually eaten as you are ushered to the door. But there’s been a seismic event, change is coming, and for us in South Africa its epicentre is a little establishment in Kyalami called Café Hemingway’s.” So begins a fantastic article in United Maverick, about our delectable private experience at Café Hemingway’s ‘10 Dining Street’.

10 courses will be served, with each one an experience in itself. You can expect new and modern twists on deceptively simple dishes and our team will recommend wine or whisky pairings for each course. Seating just between 8 - 14 guests in our private dining room for their 10 courses, ‘10 DIning Street’ is an experience you have to try!

Breakfasts @Hemingways

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"
"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"
"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.” Winnie the Pooh, AA Milne

Ahhh Pooh – a bear after our own heart! For most people, and bears we suppose, who haven’t eaten at Café Hemingway’s breakfast is nothing like an adventure. But for those lucky ones who have… ah well, for them it’s different.

Mountains of pancakes wait to be scaled. Dripping with mascarpone cheese and fresh fruit. For the hungry we have full English breakfasts, or the Tom Ripley, eggs Florentine with sliced artisan rye bread topped with wilted spinach, a poached egg or avocado & mushrooms (seasonal) & home-made hollandaise sauce.

Of course adventure can also be light and breezy, rather like a walk through the hundred acre wood. If you fancy an adventure on the lighter side, try the Elizabeth Robinson, Swiss muesli topped with toasted nuts, cranberries & julienne apples drizzled with honey, or even the Alcibiades (quinoa & roasted almond tart topped with peanut butter & seasonal berries, served with a side of organic Greek yoghurt).

But above all, breakfast needs to be delicious, and for pure taste sensation you can’t beat our Clarice (quiche of the day) or the Madame Rouge (layered French chocolate croissant).

So whether it’s light and healthy, substantial and layered, or just simply decadent, let Café Hemingway’s take you on a breakfast adventure!
